Bay laurel, also known as Laurus nobilis comes from the beloved bay family and is a true Mediterranean plant. Originating from the Mediterranean region, it is unfortunately not completely winter hardy in our area (Northern Europe).

    These classic and popular garden plants have been admired by gardeners for many years, but are anything but easy to maintain.     History of bay trees

    This classic garden plant was introduced to our region (Northern Europe) in the 17th century.     The Latin name is derived from "Laudare" which means praiseworthy. During the classical Olympic Games, bay laurel leaves were used in a laurel wreath to honour the champions.

    Nowadays, bay leaves are also frequently used in kitchens.
