The Taxus, also known as the Yew tree is a frequently planted conifer species worldwide. In the Netherlands, it is often used in formal park landscaping, around cemeteries and in large gardens. These trees are particularly suitable for creating hedges and for topiary. Examples are the palace gardens (Versailles) castles (England) Hortus Nijmegen etc.  A disadvantage of the real Yew is that it is extremely poisonous. Especially fatal for horses.
